United for Efficiency (U4E) and the Governments of Ghana and Senegal are pleased to announce the launch of the ECOWAS Refrigerators and Air Conditioners Initiative (ECOFRIDGES). ECOFRIDGES aims to accelerate the switch to energy-efficient cooling products, saving consumers money on their utility bills and relieving stress on the electricity grid while having far less impact on the planet. In collaboration with BASE and the African Development Bank, the project seeks to unlock at least $25 million for innovative financing, making it easier for consumers to purchase high-performance refrigerators and air conditioners. ECOFRIDGES also addresses policies, recycling, awareness raising, and capacity building to ensure market transformation is comprehensive and lasting. The ECOWAS Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) will share best practices and lessons from Ghana and Senegal to be considered for adoption throughout the region. ECOFRIDGES is made possible through the generous support of the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program.
