  • Funded by the Clean Cooling Collaborative

Project Details

Main Components

Established in 2023, the ASEAN Cool Initiative aims to accelerate the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Policy Roadmap for Energy-Efficient Room Air Conditioners.

The initiative provides technical assistance and capacity building to support countries in adopting more ambitious MEPS and energy labelling requirements, with Singapore and Malaysia acting as frontrunners in implementing stronger regulations.

It is implemented by United for Efficiency (U4E), with support from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC).

  • Collection of data on high-efficiency room air conditioners (RACs) in major export markets
  • Development of updated energy labelling requirements based on market data
  • Support for stakeholder engagement and consultations
  • Analysis of the impact of new MEPS and labelling, combined with consumer awareness activities

Milestones

  • Supported Singapore under ASEAN Cool Initiative on MEPS Revision for Room Air Conditioners, first country in the region to achieve ASEAN's regional target
