United for Efficiency supports Chile’s policymakers and regulators in advancing policies, strategies and actions for the phase-out of inefficient residential refrigeration products.
The initiative promotes an integrated policy approach to support the transition to energy-efficient refrigerators and freezers, ensuring that market transformation can be sustained over time by the domestic market without continued external support.

Project Details
Main Components
This GEF-funded initiative contributes to climate change mitigation while supporting improved energy efficiency in the residential sector.
- Revision of regulatory mechanisms, including minimum energy performance standards and energy labels
- Strengthening monitoring, verification and enforcement through collaboration with national laboratories
- Energy efficiency awareness campaign and a demonstrative refrigerator replacement programme
- Implementation of a national framework for environmentally sound management of used appliances, including a Collection and Recycling System Organization (CRSO) business model for refrigerators and freezers
