United for Efficiency supports Myanmar’s policymakers and regulators to advance policies, strategies and actions for the phase-out of inefficient lighting. Emphasis is on an integrated policy approach so that a transition can be sustained by the domestic market without continued external support or resources.

LEAPFROGGING MYANMAR’S MARKET TO HIGH EFFICIENT LIGHTING AND APPLIANCES
The main objective of this GEF-funded project is to facilitate a market transformation toward high efficiency lighting and electrical appliances through the integrated policy approach, thereby reducing growth in electrical demand and greenhouse gas emissions, while simultaneously increasing energy access.
Main Components
- Adoption of MEPS and label requirements and enhancement of existing monitoring, verification and enforcement
- Capacity building for importers and local industry on new minimum energy performance standards and labelling requirements
- Conduct public awareness raising through multi-media communication and mass media campaigns
