United for Efficiency supports Chile’s policymakers and regulators to advance policies, strategies and actions for the phase-out of inefficient residential refrigeration products. Emphasis is on an integrated policy approach so that a transition can be sustained by the domestic market without continued external support or resources.

LEAPFROGGING CHILEAN’S MARKETS TO MORE EFFICIENT REFRIGERATORS AND FREEZERS
The objective of this GEF-funded project is to transform Chile’s markets to energy-efficient residential refrigerators/freezers, providing the dual benefits of climate change mitigation and increased energy access.
Main Components
- Revise regulatory mechanisms, including minimum energy performance standards and labels
- Enhance monitoring, verification, and enforcement with national laboratories
- Energy efficiency awareness communication campaign and refrigerator replacement demonstrative programme
- Implementation of a national framework for environmentally sound management and Collection and Recycling System Organization (CRSO) business model for used refrigerators/freezers
