The U4E Global Map includes Country Savings Assessments showing the potential financial, environmental, energy, and societal benefits that are possible with a transition to energy-efficient lighting, refrigerators, room air conditioners, electric motors and distribution transformers. In addition to the full Country Savings Assessments for 156 developing countries and emerging economies, U4E has conducted an assessment on the savings potential from the implementation of energy efficiency standards for ceiling fans and heat pumps. Due to the to inherent market characteristics for these products, namely that they are largely unorganized, informal and segregated, it has not been possible to develop a single global methodology for the assessment of potential savings. Hence, the assessment is limited to the small number of countries for which sufficient stock data and reliable projections of annual sales data were available.
