In November 2023, SADCSTAN, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) standards body, approved Harmonised Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) for Air Conditioners and Refrigerating Appliances for the region. The finalised MEPS were disseminated to the 16 member states for the commencement of national implementation in February 2024:
- SADC HT 110: 2023, Minimum Energy Performance Standards for Air Conditioners
- SADC HT 111: 2023, Minimum Energy Performance Standards for Refrigerating Appliances
The MEPS were developed as part of the Regional Harmonization of Energy‑Efficient and Climate-Friendly Cooling in East and Southern Africa project.
