United for Efficiency

Partner with U4E

U4E is open to countries and stakeholders with a specific interest in moving markets to energy-efficient products.

U4E is open to countries and stakeholders with a specific interest in moving markets to energy-efficient products. By supporting U4E, partners will be able to contribute to reducing the world’s growing electricity consumption and mitigate climate change. Through their participation, partners will support the achievement of the UN Secretary-General’s Sustainable Energy for All initiative; and receive international visibility and recognition.

Countries

By moving markets to energy-efficient appliances and equipment, countries will be able to reduce national electricity consumption, curb greenhouse gas emissions and benefit from many other financial and economic savings. The world map highlights the potential savings for each country.

Why become a partner to U4E?

The brochure “Leapfrogging your country to energy-efficient lighting, appliances and equipment” highlights the benefits of a transition to efficient products for countries and what support governments will receive when joining U4E:

Appliance & equipment manufacturers

U4E works with manufacturers of energy-efficient appliances and equipment for a sustainable market transformation to efficient products. Manufacturers are uniquely positioned to support this undertaking, given their technical know-how as providers of energy-efficient technologies and their expertise relating to markets, energy-efficiency standards and policies, and consumer information and marketing. Manufacturers can provide in-kind or financial contributions to U4E.

Why become a partner to U4E?

Partnership in U4E provides appliance and equipment manufacturers with a variety of benefits, including:

Utilities

As providers of electricity, utilities play a key role in encouraging the use of energy-efficient products by their clients. This is important for many developing countries and emerging economies when addressing power shortages and black-outs that may eventually undermine economic development.

Why become a partner to U4E?

By promoting the use of energy-efficient products, utilities will be able to curb electricity consumption of their customers, thereby reducing stress on generation and distribution infrastructure. This in turn will bring down the risks of blackouts and avoid costly investments in new power generation capacity

Financial organisations & institutions

U4E seeks to partner with public and private financial institutions such as international, regional and national development banks, private banks and other financial entities to address the upfront costs of energy-efficient products, one of the biggest barriers to their effective uptake. By supporting partner governments of U4E through loans and by putting in place financial mechanisms such as revolving loan funds, efficient products will become affordable to businesses and consumers. In this way, financial organisations will support a sustainable transition to energy-efficient products.
