United for Efficiency supports ASEAN countries in advancing energy-efficient room air conditioners by providing technical assistance and capacity building for implementing Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and labels. This effort, funded by the Clean Cooling Collaborative, aims to accelerate ambitious energy efficiency regulations under the ASEAN Regional Policy Roadmap.
PROJECT DETAILS
In 2023, the ASEAN Cool Initiative was established to accelerate the implementation of the ASEAN Regional Policy Roadmap for Energy-Efficient Room Air Conditioners to enable countries to go straight to the more ambitious Regional Phase II levels by providing technical assistance and capacity building on Minimum Energy Performance Standards (MEPS) and labels in the region focusing on Singapore and Malaysia to be frontrunners in implementing more stringent regulations. Supported by funding from the Clean Cooling Collaborative, it is implemented by United for Efficiency (U4E), with support from the ASEAN Centre for Energy (ACE), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) and the International Institute for Energy Conservation (IIEC).
Main Components
- Undertaking data collection on high-efficiency RAC products in major export markets.
- Developing new label requirements for RACs based on the data collected.
- Supporting governments on stakeholder engagement and consultations.
- Conducting an analysis to demonstrate the positive impact of the new MEPS levels, and labels through consumer awareness activities.
