United for Efficiency supports Costa Rica’s policymakers and regulators to advance policies, strategies and actions for the phase-out of inefficient lighting and refrigeration products. Emphasis is on an integrated policy approach so that a transition can be sustained by the domestic market without continued external support or resources.

DEVELOPMENT OF A MARKET FOR ENERGY-EFFICIENT LIGHTING, AIR CONDITIONERS AND REFRIGERATORS
The objective of this GEF-funded project is to accelerate improvements in energy efficiency under Costa Rica’s public procurement programmes and reduce Costa Rica’s energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions.

Main Components

Energy diagnosis to identify opportunities to replace conventional appliances with energy efficient appliances in highest energy consuming public institutions
Training for market actors on sustainable public procurement
Establish revolving loan fund to finance large-scale replacements in public sector
Development of national capacities for environmentally sound management
